Important Dates
Three Budget Work Sessions have been scheduled for the planning of the 2012-13 budget:
Session I, Monday, January 30th at 6:30 p.m.: A Traditional Work Session
Budget items to be discussed will include Buildings & Grounds, Transportation, Technology, and other “infrastructure” items.
There will also be a discussion of the new Administrative Leadership Model – part-time superintendent/ full-time principal/ full-time assistant principal – including each administrator’s roles and responsibilities.
See Press Release: Press Release Eng Press Release Span
Session II, Saturday, February 11th at 9:00 a.m.: A Community Conversation
Given the many difficult choices ahead of us this budget season, the Springs School Board will be holding a community forum focusing on Instructional Program, Special Education, Extra-Curricular, Sports, and Field Trips. Stakeholders – including parents, students, staff members, and district residents – will have an opportunity to participate in a small group (of 8 to 10 participants) activity to identify which district programs and services they believe to be of the highest value to our students, as well as which items they might be willing to “re-think” or sacrifice in order to keep those things that they value most. Feedback from the forum will provide valuable information for the Board of Education and Administration regarding the priorities of the school community.
It is strongly suggested that you RSVP to forumfeb11@springs.k12.ny.us if you plan on attending.
Session III, Monday, February 27th at 6:30 p.m.: Format TBD
Budget items to be discussed will include Tuition Costs, BOCES Expenses, and all items not previously covered.
As you may be aware, school districts are currently awaiting final instructions from the State Education Department and the NYS Comptroller regarding implementation of the 2% tax levy limit. The third work session may be rescheduled pending receipt of final instructions.

AHERA Notification
In compliance with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), Springs School buildings have been inspected for asbestos-containing building materials. The EPA and the New York State Education Department require us to conduct reinspections of the buildings every three years. An EPA/NYS accredited Inspector/Management Planner performed the inspections in August 2010 and recommended actions to safely manage the asbestos materials in our buildings. No response actions were taken during the previous year. The results of the reinspection are on file in the management plan in the District Office. Everyone is welcome to view the AHERA Management Plan during normal school hours.
